Membership Agreement

The Organisation

Akhtamar Armenian Performance Group (‘Akhtamar’) is an unaffiliated organisation promoting Armenian dance and music to the wider community through dance classes and performances.

Akhtamar has been registered as a charity since June 2003 and has a Board of Trustees who act as the Managing Committee (‘the Committee’) of the organisation. 

The object of the charity is to advance the education of the public in the understanding of the art of Armenian folk dancing.

Teachers

Arsen Zakaryan (Artistic Director) and Karine Avetisyan are former members of the prestigious Armenian State Dance Company.  A husband and wife team dedicated to teaching traditional dances as well as choreographing new pieces to increase and enrich the repertoire.  They are inspiring to work with and instil into the members a love of Armenian dance, music and cultural traditions.

Akhtamar will communicate with you predominantly by email and Whatsapp group chat.

Classes

Akhtamar runs a variety of weekly dance classes to suit all ages and abilities. Latest information on classes can be found on our website.

Fees

Latest pricing can be found on our website

  • Fees are due on the first day of each term
  • There will be no discount or refunds for unattended classes as hall hire expenses and teacher fees are incurred irrespective of the number of members attending
  • If the fees are not paid by the given date, you/your child will not be allowed into the next class

Attendance 

  • We will take attendance every lesson
  • If you are more than 20 minutes late, you will not be allowed into the class
  • If attendance falls below 80% per term, you will receive a written warning and be in jeopardy of partaking in the annual show

Parents of small children should also be punctual in collecting their children, as Akhtamar cannot be held responsible for children wandering off the premises while waiting to be collected.

Uniform 

If you do not wear uniform, you will not be allowed into the class

  • Akhtamar t-shirt / plain black t-shirt

Costumes

Once costumes are handed to a member, it is that member’s responsibility to keep them in good order and return them back following each performance.

All costumes are property of Akhtamar and should be returned as soon as a performance is complete

Receipts will be issued to every member once a costume has been handed over. 

Loss of costumes will incur fees. 

Should any costumes be altered without prior approval, fees will be incurred.

Events and Performances

Akhtamar performs in a number of small and larger events throughout the year as well as independently producing large shows.

The small events are an important part of the Akhtamar experience and all members are encouraged to participate in as many performances as possible.  It is through these smaller events that members gain the performing experience necessary for the larger shows and it is this regular performance experience that has allowed Akhtamar to achieve such a high professional standard in the past.

The large shows are a major part of the Akhtamar annual cycle and a great opportunity for showcasing Akhtamar to the community at large.  Staging these productions requires full participation and occupies the entire dance group for a number of months.  

During the months leading up to the show rehearsal time is gradually increased and we ask for cooperation and an increased level of commitment and effort from all members.

If a member is approached in regards to a performance, they must inform the teachers immediately. Under no circumstances can a member agree to perform on behalf of Akhtamar.

Behaviour/attitude in class

We will not tolerate any disrespectful behaviour towards the teachers or fellow dancers

Akhtamar Committee

This agreement may be amended or modified only by writing, executed by the Managing Committee. This provision means that only a written signed agreement will be enforceable to amend or modify the agreement. 

This provision provides an automatic right of termination if the other party fails to comply with the terms of the agreement.
